About STP
Discover who we are, our mission, and how we transform the financial ecosystem with innovative technological solutions. At STP, we are committed to the trust, efficiency, and growth of our clients.
Who are we?
We are specialists in payment system technologies, properly authorized to operate as an Electronic Payment Funds Institution (IFPE). We are also authorized by Banco de México (Banxico) to participate in the Interbank Electronic Payments System (SPEI®), which is managed by Banxico. This system allows participating financial institutions to automate their payment processes, reduce costs, and offer customers low-cost SPEI® transfers.
How do we operate?
As participants in the Interbank Electronic Payments System (SPEI®), we operate through APIs and a platform that allows sending and receiving payments to any counterparty operating within the SPEI® system, in real-time and without intermediaries. This means there is no need to access different banking portals, via an API connection between the client's ERP system and STP, or through its Financial Link platform, in accordance with the security infrastructure standards (IES) of Banco de México®.
What is SPEI®?
SPEI® is the main system in the country for making interbank transfers in national currency, managed by Banco de México. The main features of this system are its ability to process a large number of transfers with high security and near real-time processing, as well as the ability to handle transfers of any amount. Additionally, the system’s design allows participating financial institutions to automate their payment processes, reduce costs, and offer customers low-cost SPEI® transfers.
Who can be participants in SPEI®?
Participants in the SPEI® system can include retirement fund administrators, brokerage firms, currency exchanges, credit institutions, insurance companies, cooperative savings and loan societies, distributors of investment company shares, regulated multiple-purpose financial companies, popular financial societies, community financial societies, and operators of investment companies, as well as compensation chambers authorized by Banco de México.
According to Rule 56 of Circular 14/2017, the Rules of the Interbank Electronic Payments System issued by Banco de México, entities subject to federal financial regulation, as well as supervision by Banco de México, the National Banking and Securities Commission, the National Insurance and Bonding Commission, or the National Retirement Savings System Commission, may be participants in SPEI®.
What security is provided by SPEI®?
The security of SPEI® is based on digitally signed messages. To do this, SPEI® participants implement digital certificates and keys for authorized persons, who must obtain these certificates in accordance with the security infrastructure standards (IES) of Banco de México®. SPEI® uses an open protocol (public communication rules with the system), which allows participants to automate their processes and provide more and better services to their clients.

What type of account does STP offer?
STP opens Electronic Payment Funds Accounts, where records of deposits are made equivalent to the amount of electronic payment funds issued in exchange for receiving a sum of money, in national currency, for receiving or sending fund transfers.
What is the CLABE account?
The CLABE (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada) is a unique 18-digit number assigned to each account in financial institutions in Mexico. Its main function is to facilitate secure and efficient electronic transfers (SPEI®) between different banks.
How is the CLABE account composed?
- Digits 1 to 3: Financial Institution Code. Each institution in Mexico has a unique 3-digit code assigned by Banco de México. For example, STP’s code is 646.
- Digits 4 to 7: Branch Code. Identifies the specific branch of the institution where the account was opened.
- Digits 8 to 17: Account Number. This is the individual account number assigned to each user by the institution.
- Digit 18: Check Digit. Calculated using an algorithm from the previous 17 digits. It serves to validate the CLABE and reduce data entry errors.
How can I strengthen the security of my account?
For robust financial security, create unique and complex passwords, activate multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever possible, and access your accounts from secure networks. Regularly monitor your account statements, set alerts for unusual activities, and be cautious of phishing. Keep your software up to date and immediately report any loss or theft of information.
What should I do if my data has been compromised?
If your financial data has been compromised, contact your financial institution immediately to block your accounts and report the situation. Change all your passwords, review your account statements for unauthorized transactions, and report the incident to the authorities. Monitor your credit report, consider freezing your credit if necessary, and remain alert for any suspicious activity.
How does STP protect my account?
All financial transactions performed through STP are encrypted via VPNs and must be authorized using private digital locks. Additionally, we activate two-factor authentication and generate users with multiple roles to prevent any single user from intentionally misusing your company’s resources.
